I know you’ve been refreshing Nachos NY for weeks for the Guac Rock announcement, and that time has finally come. We’re glad to say that it is happening in a few weeks on Monday August 19, once again on the mighty Jewel.
In case you are wondering if you’re going to be hungry upon the ship this year, beyond the mounds of guacamole we will be serving you. This year we’ve tapped an old friend, Brooklyn Taco. We met them long ago when we were stationed together at the Artists and Fleas Market in Williamsburg and since then they’ve moved on to dominating the taco scene at the Essex Street Market and the Hester Street Fair. They will be bringing us their famous Guaco Taco along with other delicious specialties.
The Second Annual Guac Rock Boat Cruise set sail last night on the East River with 300 dancing, guacamole lovers. The So So Glos, our super secret act, North Highlands and American Darlings provided the entertainment while 9 different guacamoles were doled out.
Guac Rock is only a week away! Tickets are still available for this epic event. Imagine. 3 hours on a boat, unlimited guacamole, an hour of free tequila and three awesome bands. One of those bands, American Darlings were kind enough to answer a few nacho goodness questions.
Maybe you heard of him on Grub Street this past week or maybe you went to Quiz Rock with a Side of Guac at the Knitting Factory but Richard Sloven is taking New York City by storm, one order of guac at a time. With Gorilla Guac, Richard prepares guacamole made-to-order in various locations including the Guac Rock Boat Cruise on July 18th. Tickets are still available. Last summer, we introduced an event that rocked several faces, the East River, and the Statue of Liberty. Well since about the minute we got on the boat, we knew we were bringing it back. So we’ve decided to step it up many many steps up the ladder.
Peter Borenstein of the brilliant Tu Guac Shakur was invited to bring his guacamole brilliance to Guac Rock. And boy did he represent. He made a classic guac, using picked jalapenos as his secret weapon. To prepare for a small party, try this one on for size.
Stranded in and LA airport, our Guactcular runner-up Chris was stuck could not bring his guacamole to the masses aboard the Jewel for Guac Rock. Instead, he emailed one of his recipes to help get our creative juices going. His secret ingredient: ginger, really got the night kicked off right.
