For a nice weekend getaway from being the Nacho King of NY, I went out to Chicago to be the Nacho ambassador. Taking with me lovely photographer Galen, we hit the streets hard looking for fun and a few good tortillas. As you know, we have a Chicago rep for the Nacho Army. She took us in and we readied for a INSANE weekend.
My nacho love started at the wee age of 7 when my family went out to eat at Uncle Julio’s in Dallas, TX. After purveying the menu I felt that the bean and cheese nachos were going to be my best bet. After watching the tortilla machine spin those balls of dough, baby, right round, round, round, until they became little inflated pillows and then finally tortillas, and consuming more Dr. Pepper then healthy for any age, my meal arrived.
Enter Nachos Con Los Angeles: melting pot that it is, you gotta pull the best of the best from the East and the West, culminating in a crossover cuisine explosion. This is LA, after all, fertile crescent of import cuisine and crossover whathaveyou.
I’ve wondered for a long time what a Parisian or a Kentucky Nacho would be like. So I’ve decided to reach out to my friends around the US and world abroad to tell me how their city’s Nacho would be. Our first, as the title points out is the ‘Nati Nachos from Cincinnati, OH. Our first author, Erin Lindsey, describes them beautifully.
