You know what happens, sometimes I leave Brooklyn, sometimes I even leave NYC. I don’t get too far though. On Sunday, we made it to Hoboken for a friend’s art opening and I needed to eat nachos.

After we walked past a HUGE line and later realized it was Cake Boss’ bakery, we found Charrito’s. If Foursquare tips were to believed, this place was supposed to be the best Mexican food in the NYC area. We noticed two things when we got there, this was a small place and it was B.Y.O. liquor, so they’d make you margaritas if you brought the tequila.

When I ordered nachos, I wanted chorizo, but it was unavailable so I went for ground beef (Nachos Rancheros).

If you know us, you know what the first thing we noticed on the plate was: LETTUCE. WTL!? Fine, I’m over it. We dug in. This was a flavorful plate of nachos. The cheese, refried beans and dollop of sour cream were all over the place.

We kept eating and when we got to the end of the chips, we had a mishmash of toppings that became a delightful layer dip. This part might have been better than the nachos themselves.

So were they good, yes. Great? No. Best in the NYC area? No, sorry Foursquare.
