National Tortilla Chip Day!
There’s so many Nacho-related holidays that I’m running out of pinatas to break (last week was Margarita Day) and today we must celebrate the Day of the Tortilla Chip. While we’re nacho lovers, we can get down with a bag of corny tortilla chips all the time. We make our own sometimes (recipe video coming soon). We were curious how they came to be and did some digging. Here’s your history lesson:

The tortilla chips at El Jalapeno
We all know about Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya, but Rebecca Webb Carranza can be seen as the godmother of the modern tortilla chip on your plate. It came to stardom as a use of misshapen tortillas rejected from the tortilla machine that she and her husband used at their deli and tortilla factory in Los Angeles. People loved when the discarded tortillas were cut into triangles and fried. They used to cost just a dime a bag at the El Zarape Tortilla Factory. Oh, the golden days of tortillas.
When we eat our nachos, the chip is essential. My perfect chip is thick to withstand sogginess, a little salty, not colored, and preferably fresh.
To celebrate, here’s where you can get the best Tortilla Chips for your nachos.
Who would you add to this list?
