First things first, WE WON!

On a snowy Sunday evening (while I was pulling into the Port-au-Prince airport in Haiti), the guys macked it hard and brought home the gold. I want to say muchas gracias to Lee and the apprentice, Dan for stepping up and repping “Nacho Mama’s Cookies” at this year’s Cookie Takedown, brought to you by the wondrous Matt Timms. Matt judged our Guactacular last year you might remember. Don’t worry kids, he wasn’t swinging anything in our favor. This victory was decided by the people. So of course THANK YOU!

[Lee note: Dan might have helped us out just a bit. Girl's were melting as they saw him in his red I Nacho NY shirt.]

The winning recipe happens to be a favorite of mine. My godmother made these Cream Wafers for weddings and Christmas parties many many moons ago. Since she passed away, I try to make these cookies for people to spread a little of Nancy’s awesomeness. The woman went to my school’s grandparents day (she was my mom’s age), let me ride underneath the shopping carts at Bells supermarket, and most importantly taught me how to bake.

Mexican wedding cake cookies, spearmint drops, Jell-o cookies, chocolate no-bakes, you name it she did it. So thank you to all of you who came out and sampled dozens of cookies to chose her recipe. I made a slight tweak. Instead of a simple circle or heart, I used a triangle cookie cutter and dyed the butter cream a pretty orange color.  Anyway, thank you everyone and if you care to know the recipe, hit me up at rachel@NachosNY.com They are quite simple but a pain to do.

Anyway, it’s mango and avocado season here in Haiti so keep your eyes pealed for some sweet recipes. Until then, happy holidays nacho lovers!

We won’t even be mean about the girl who tied with us.
