Letter to the Editor: International Edition

Last Friday, I received post from the far land of Ireland. First I noticed a photo.

And I thought, magical. A cho’s before hoes lover in a foreign land. But then I noticed an indecipherable language. Can anyone translate?

Greetings O’Nachos NY,

First things first, I’m not gonna claim ta be a huge fan of either nachos or your blog. True, I am a fan, but not a huge one. It would be fraudulent for me ta claim ta be your biggest fan just so dat you post me “Letta to da Editda” on your front page (although, I’d expect nuttin’ less). Alas, recently I did acquire one of your custom “‘Chos Before Hoes” t-shirts and wore it on an adventure I took with me lads and lassies ta da great Emerald Isle. I felt as though it would be appropriate attire given dat da shirt is as green as da shamrocks dat grow aplenty on da isle’s lush hills, and da lettering is as bright as da gold guarded by wee leprechauns at da end of a lovely rainbow. Alas, I saw neither a leprechaun nor a rainbow. I did however, bump into a group of Spaniards who were weekending in Dublin. They showed a good bit o’interest in me wee shirt. I told ‘em dat there is a sayin’ here in da States, “‘Bros Before Hoes,” and dat ‘dis replaced da more common “Bros” with “‘Chos” … as in nachos. They were confused by ‘dis term ‘hoe’, for which one of my travelin’ companions clarified as meaning ‘prostitute’. I thought dat was a bit much, and argued dat a hoe spans da spectrum, from da mere ’skanky’ to da more derogatory ’slut’. Neverdaless, dey seemed much more interested in my affiliation with hoes dan dey did with my affiliation with nachos.

(an Irish goodbye),
Eleanor
