Pedro's
On a brisk Wednesday, I made plans to eat dinner with my friend, Jen (she loves meeting new people so find her and say hi), in Dumbo. She mentioned her disinterest in Mexican food, but I convinced her that Pedro’s, a place with a bright/crazy mural on the wall, would also have delightful food. Boy, was I in store for a night of memories.
When I tried to order a burrito and nachos for the table, our waitress attempted to talk me out of it, citing that it would be “too much food.” Finally, she relented and put in an order for “Super Nachos,” containing black beans, cheese, sour cream. “Super” doesn’t have guac? That sounds dangerous.
Jen’s plantains came first, followed by my burrito, then the nachos. Points off for the strange order. They looked like:
Wow. Those look really good, right? Except for some lettuce around the edges, these look like they’re going to be excelente. Melty and sprinkle cheese, fresh tomatoes, jalapenos, black beans and crema. I’m ready.
Then, suddenly, I grab a chip and it’s covered in the black goop from the can the black beans came from. GROSS. So I took another chip, one covered in just cheese and it was really bland, which was terrible because the chips were actually awesome. Then I had a 2nd realization, I can’t find any more chips. It’s all toppings that I don’t even like. Yuck. This really isn’t going well, is it?
5 Minutes later.
Ok. That’s it. I give up. This is straight-up gross. Check please! Also, I got the driest pork burrito. Tssk tssk. Where’s our check? By this point, the waitress is cold shoulder-ing us and all we want to do is leave before we get some other bland/dry mexican food. I stand up and get the check and we run out of there all of us having grown long beards from waiting for the bill.
