San Loco's Second Chance
On our first ever nacho crawl, San Loco was the third stop on the Lower East Side. Simply put, we weren’t impressed. Ball park nachos, lettuce, bland pork, nothing seemed to go right for this place. Well let’s fast forward a couple months to this past weekend’s ‘Chos and Shows Festival. Following some cans of PBR and shots of whiskey, we went in search of your typical late-night, greasy, fatty drunk food. Now we know when San Loco is an acceptable nacho place. At 3 am on a Saturday morning when you only have a few bucks left after blowing all your money at the bar.

I was the only one of the gaggle of nacho lovers who have dared to have tried the San Loco ball park nachos before. However, for $2.50 for a single order and about $5 for a double order Jason, Chris, Andrew, Julia, and I jumped on the cheese sauce train. I set my standards low and maybe it’s the whiskey (sorry Mom) but they were better the second time around.

STILL look at the lettuce. Julia ,on the other hand, proclaimed her love for the Iceberg loud and clear, shouting to strangers and anyone who would listen. But I won’t have any of that. I didn’t order Chipotle Chicken nachos to eat a salad. We refrained from the Pork Pipian nachos which were a huge disappointment the last time. The chicken this time around had a lot of flavor and didn’t overwhelm the chips. I could have had more guacamole on my chips though. The ball park nachos don’t even come with the golden green goodness!

All in all, the ‘Chos and Shows Festival left us hungry and wanting more nachos. After splurging on the $12 Belmont Lounge nachos earlier in the evening, San Loco was easy on the wallet and hit the spot. BUT don’t take this as a ringing endorsement. It’s more like me saying that after a few when your taste buds are numb and you’re running low on cash and need something to soak up the PBR, then sure stop by and sit out on the sidewalk. You make interesting friends when you offer strangers some ‘chos.
