Mexican Radio
With mounds of recommendations coming from everywhere for Mexican Radio, I decided to mark it on the calendar and go. Rachel, aka Princess Guac, dropped a bomb on my claiming her employment came first and using that flimsy excuse to decline her attendance. Apparently my suggestion to “quit your job” wasn’t going to cut it.
So after drying my eyes, I booked constant Nacho-Pal Sara to come with me. Arriving on the 4:50 pm dot, I drank a transistor, a sort of margarita with tequila and triple sec. Yum.
We ordered “Radio Nachos.” Here’s how they looked:
They came out in a pizza-style version, which I usually do not like, but I decided not to judge them based on their appearance, so we trudged on. (Ok, I was judging them, harshly, but still ate them.) But as you can see, they were black beaned, cheesed, sour creamed, and “smoky guajillo pepper sauce”d. Looks good; it’s a sort of soviet nacho, everything equally shared between the homemadey thick chips.
Ok, so I am back to judging their decision to go individual chip toppinged. I enjoy a disparity of chips where the top 10% have 70% of the wealth (I mean toppings). It’s just a better nacho when you have trickle-down flavornomics – beans falling off to the next chips – going, and a supernacho – chip with so much stuff on it that you can’t tell there’s even a chip.
They were super cheesy, which I can support usually, but this wasn’t delightful cheese. The other ingredients were good and fresh, with my particular enjoyment of jalapenos, but I was underwhelmed by my 4 chips. Sara was unimpressed as she told me to have half of her nachos portion. So to those of you that recommended, you better attend a nachos seminar (nacho crawl: next one is April 18.)
Also, what’s the deal with the prices here. $19 for a burrito? Does it come with a $9 rebate? Lame.
In a related note, Sara ordered mac n’ cheese. It was unexpectedly green:
