Nachos in the Den(mark)
This “Your City” comes from someone very close to Mr. Nachos, it’s his little sister, Bocadito KT Frank. She’s spending the year studying abroad and finding nachos where she can. Next week, Mr. Nachos and Lil Bocadito will be reuniting in Paris with Madre and Padre Frank. While he is abroad, he will be doing out of NY jurisdiction reviews and you will still be getting the posts you know any love about Nachos in NY from Princess Guac.
For the past seven months, I have wandered around Europe with my home base being Copenhagen, Denmark. I had wonderful nachos in Spain and some OK nachos in Amsterdam. While I have seen some nachos in Copenhagen, I have not had the opportunity to try them. Those nachos that I did see looked pretty good with their cheese and jalapeƱos and sides of guacamole and salsa.
However in this Nordic country, the following are three other things I could imagine to be placed on nachos: herring, liver paste and carrots. Herring is one of those foods that is always on the Danish dinner table. It is the first thing you are supposed to try when you arrive in Denmark. Liver paste is a topping that I would most definitely avoid. It has a very interesting taste, but mixed with salsa and guacamole it would probably be disgusting. Eating carrots in salads, in sauces, and on open face sandwiches is somewhat of a Danish tradition. The crunch on the nachos might be a good addition, however I am not the nachos expert in the family. I guess I will have to return to New York for a high quality nacho experience.
